When I first saw the trailer in the spring of 2015 about this film that never showed theatrically in the U.S. with its stats about no animals being harmed but dozens of cast and crew members receiving serious injuries, I was confused whether it was a narrative or a documentary about the making of this dangerous film. Wildlife preservationist Hank lives harmoniously alongside a menagerie of untamed animals, including cheetahs, elephants, lions and tigers on a preservation in the African plains.
Actress Tippi Hedren and her family set out to make a unique film by spending ten years living with and filming 150 untrained lions, tigers and assorted wild animals.
I was intrigued to see all the big cats on screen (many of which do not naturally live together on the same continents), and, in fact, the wild animals from an elephant, to birds, to all the big cats are given writing credit for this tale. Who's going to tear their eyes away from that big, beautiful cat? After being murdered by his rivals, Petey Wheatstraw is resurrected, in exchange for marrying the devil's daughter, the world's ugliest woman. A businessman accidentally kills The Metal Fetishist, who gets his revenge by slowly turning the man into a grotesque hybrid of flesh and rusty metal. One of the truly singular one-offs in all of cinema history.
